Geoff Morten - Statement on Etching

'I make paintings and prints simultaneously because they inform each other.

I treat etching as, essentially, a black and white medium, an extension of my drawings, and I am fascinated by the permanence, the surface pressure and the alchemy of the intaglio process.

Although printmaking is considered a democratic medium, I believe etchings are much less public than paintings and I want to invite the viewer to engage with the work in the same intimate way in which they were made.'
